An authentic Italian food experience in a home restaurant

Did you ever heard about a home restaurant? That is something I know from Greece. During winter time for a few years I have been to Crete when I still traveled with my dog. And many times friends brought me to home restaurants. Little private houses where local people offer meals. It’s a special way to have lunch. They cook for themselves but for more people. Just one meal. They often have one or two tables to sit and strangers who like to eat ask if there is anything. Then they normally enter the kitchen, have a look into the pots and decide what they want to eat. And pay a small amount. Great, typical and authentic food.

When my friends in ValdericArte b&b in the Marche told me they will have an opening of a home restaurant I immediately thought about Greece but could not imagine in Italy. But it’s the same system.

So I did a quick research on Internet and found out: in Europe this way of ‘restaurant’ is booming, in the US it is still in the beginning. But Airbnb will soon offer this service as well and so in every country soon you will find authentic food in local people’s home. I think that is a great way to know a country!

The same week of the opening I had a friend over from Ireland (as I am back to Italy for this period). And it was a perfect way to let him experience the taste of Italian food. Pizza in this case because it was a pizza evening. 11 different pizzas. In the end I think everyone had 2 pizzas eaten.

For me as Paleo girl there were three different pizzas as well 😉

We were around 20 persons all sitting in the beautiful dinning hall of ValdericArte and tasting one great pizza after the other. Me doing some photos, talking to people and enjoying the atmosphere and the Paleo pizzas. My Irish friend was enjoying also the good food and trying to talk to some people knowing a little English.

I found a few already famous home restaurants in Italy on Internet and I am curious to try out a few while on the road. ValdericArte for sure is a great choice as you can sleep there as well. As home restaurant they are working only on Fridays now in the beginning, maybe in summer and with a lot of bookings they will open more often.

As mentioned in a comment by Stella of ValdericArte they are open every weekend, so from Friday to Sunday.

The cooks of ValdericArte, Lorenzo and Luisa, are a typical Italian couple who cook for gods I believe, their cuisine is divine and you can be sure that you will have an authentic Italian cuisine experience. And they are offering pizza, pasta, bread and treats in Paleo style as well.

The opening of the new home restaurant was a full success as I talked to the people. Tell me in a comment if you have ever been to a home restaurant in any country and what was your experience?
