Australian Beer and a Cooker

I was really looking forward to this afternoon. The flax seed mill called me a few days ago to ask me to participate at a demonstration about bread baking. That is definitely something I like. I am still trying out how to do a good bread with only flax seed and almond flour. That’s very difficult because both have no ‘glue’ and rising properties. So I charged my camera, decided to wear something bright (white flour on black jumper looks urgh) and put something for writing in the bag.

At the mill there were a lot of people, all for baking? The surprise: no baking, sorry but just a demonstration about a cooker called Thermomix. So take a seat and listen. Me and my friend were indecisive if to go away or just listen. We stayed, at least also curious what will come out here.

We got a welcome drink. The presenter called it a beer from Australia. I don’t know why. But everyone liked it – except me. I don’t like ginger and don’t eat or drink any sugar.
She presented her cooker, blender, mixer.. well, an all in one. Chopping salad, baking bread, cooking meals or jam, preparing smooth dips and much more. She started to prepare.. a yeast bread. At least somewhere some bread.. In some minutes all ingredients were in the cooker and mixed perfectly and only minutes later already in the oven.

She demonstrated many other little things like a vegetable soup, a broccoli salad, some mushroom butter and a date dip, raspberry butter and in the end a Zabaione. And all that stuff for 10 persons in less than 1.5 hour. That is really a great thing. I liked only the date dip and the Zabaione. The rest for me was tasteless or simple not eatable. But that is fine because she did all these things in such a short time and normally I am sure it would take a little bit more.

Of course she wanted to sell. None was interested. We had a taste of all but there was not even one person who was interested in that cooker. And – I think that was the main reason – everyone was a little bit concerned about the not upcoming bread baking story. Not even one product of the mill was required in these recipes of hers. Of course I took my big bottle of fresh flax seed! And over all I liked this afternoon because there were a few things I learned.

I give you one recipe. And that’s not the date dip I have first try out these days. Here first the Australian beer recipe:

Instructions
  1. Put the ginger, the lemon zest, and the sugar in a blender, mix with a little bit of water to a nearly liquid consistency.
  2. Add the rest of water and mix just some seconds.
Recipe Notes

At winter time it's great to add hot water. In that case stir the second part in a pot. In summer it's best to serve ice cold, maybe with ice cubes added. Put also with some mint leaves the taste is super fresh.

One Response to Australian Beer and a Cooker

  1. What a pity that the bread backing lesson didn’t take place in that manner you (and me) had expected. The cooker reminds me of my printer which is also such a doing-all-in-one-tool 🙂
