Me, Keanu Reeves and Some Dates

It sounds maybe a little strange in the time of computers, high tech televisions and smart phones. But I don’t have any TV. That is now for about 7 years. It just happened. When I left Istanbul in Turkey I took all with me that was really indispensable: my computer, my clothes, my books, my two animals, my duvet and bed linnen and a few kitchen utensils. That was all I could push into my car – a station wagon at that time – that had to be also comfortable for the three of us to sleep in for days. So no TV. I stayed 7 month in Germany then, in a house of a friend because I needed to look after my mother. When she was able to stay again by her own I moved to Ireland with all the stuff. And there was definitely no money in the first years to buy more than food for the three of us. It took me at least 1.5 years to get my new job fixed. And till then I forgot completely the watching TV feeling.

But now more relaxed in the evening sometimes I am in the mood not to do anything than watching a movie. I have a good friend of mine who brings me often movies in Italian language on an USB-stick. So I decided yesterday to watch a movie and have something nice to snack. I prepared a dip I learned just a short time ago in an unexpected presentation of a cooker. And had a look what to watch. I decided for an older movie with Keanu Reeves: The Lake House. I like the actor and I like Sandra Bullock. The both of them are so beautiful together. They really match in movies. In private life I don’t know. Unfortunately I still haven’t known neither the one nor the other. But one never knows and one day maybe..

I love the scenery of the movie, the house is really amazing, the story is so different. Of course I have seen it already in a theater, ‘at the pictures’ like they use to say in Ireland. Where I saw it first. But I like it also in Italian. The Italian translators are great in matching voice and lip moves. And they are also great in choosing the right words. I have seen many movies, original and later in Italian. They are nearly identical.

Unfortunately the movie got me in and I finished nearly the whole dip. The rest I brought later to my neighbor who likes to have a taste of what I prepare sometimes ‘out of ordinary’.

I loved my movie evening. And I am looking forward to the movie at the cinema: ‘Django:Unchained’ by Quentin Tarantino. Without a dip….

Instructions
  1. Use a normal blender.
  2. Put the cream, dates, harissa and curry in the pot.
  3. Add some salt and just a little bit of cream. In case it will be too dry, you can add more.
  4. Put the cover on the pot and start mixing.
  5. Slowly add some cream that it won't be too dry but still spreadable without dropping
Recipe Notes

The dip is really a highlight in the evening. I like homemade sweet potato chips (sliced sweet potatoes dried in the oven) or also vegetable sticks with it. But of course the dip can go with all where a dip is required. Like also for a barbecue.

Note: the date dip has a little sweet touch because of the dates and a spicy because of the harissa which is a Tunisian paste of chili and other spices.
