Beaching in the North of Corfu

Agios Gordios – our holidays in Corfu in one of the most beautiful bays of the island. My friend has been there already for a few times with her family but this year it was my turn to spent a part of the summer here together with her.

Not being always on the beach we decided to explore the island in two parts: one day we spent to go around in the south and one day we wanted to try out the beaches in the north.

The Northern part we had already seen when we came via Albania – a very unexpected arrival. But of course only from the mainland coast. So this time we wanted to put our feet into the sandy beaches and the warm water of the Mediterranean Sea.

We started our tour along the East coast and Corfu city were we needed to ask some information at the port. Driving along the coast is one of the most beautiful things to do. One village came after the other, oftentimes far below the main street and small roads leading to a small port with fisher boats.

On the way we stopped a few times, had a closer look to these villages with NO tourists and nearly only homes of the Corfyotes. Small balconies, nice yards with a lot of flower pots, Bougainvilleas along white shining walls, high pine trees… Greece as everyone would imagine.

Somewhere on a small beautiful beach we had lunch. Just sitting in the shadow and enjoying the view on the Mediterranean Sea, the white sands and the people bathing.

Our long stop was on a beach at Sidari. Wonderful white sand, a long way to go into the deeper waters, possibilities to take a beach chair and take a muddy mask with the fine sand near to a wall.

We stayed for the rest of the afternoon, sunbathing, swimming and walking in the flat waters.

On the way back we stopped again at Roda to have a look at a few nice shops and then we took the road land inward to go again down towards our holiday bay.

As we were already on the road and didn’t want to cook home in the apartment we took into Corfu city.

Here we had another great walk which took a good part of the evening from shop to shop. Nice small roads, closed for any traffic and full of spending invitation.

We had dinner too and came back after midnight. Exhausted by beaching, shopping, driving … but very happy about our day we spent entirely out.
