Windmills in Amman – the Tawaheen al-Hawa Restaurant

This is only a short review of a restaurant I visited on my tour in Amman, capital of Jordan. As I had a hotel with half board I didn’t need to eat at lunch at all but being with a group it is different.

On the very last day with our guide we ended up to have a last supper together (how dramatic is that?) Anyway he brought us to a famous restaurant in the middle of the city, the Windmills Restaurant.

It doesn’t seem so interesting from outside but just entering there is a wow-effect. Huge, half open, half covered, it has a nice water well bubbling in the middle of the space.

A lot of round tables with comfortable looking chairs and benches, near to the walls seats with cushions in vivid colors. A lot of people, businessmen as well as families (with very educated children!) and tourists.

Our guide did the order. With a mix of meze, a few main dishes with chicken or lamb, to drink fresh juices of lemon and orange and pita bread.

The table was so full of small dishes that it seemed a never ending story. We had a coffee at the end but that was the only thing to still find any space in our full bellies.

The restaurant is very well visited, the food is without a doubt very tasty and just to see a temptation, the juice fresh and cold. Seats are extremely comfortable and the many people are noisy but don’t disturb.

Sure: for a nice romantic dinner I would not recommend it but with friends and who loves to have a typical meal in a typical surrounding than don’t miss the Windmills Restaurant in Amman!
