Nuts of all types are incredibly healthy. They are packed with proteins, fiber and essential fats. Just a handful a day and you will boost your health condition a lot.
I personally love almonds and go crazy for everything made with almonds. They are perfect for me as I don’t any dairy because they are rich in calcium. But also in vitamin E and flavonoids that help the heart.
Another nut type are chestnuts. Oh yes, no winter without roasted chestnuts! Do you like the smell of the roasting chestnuts in the streets? And the hot little paper bag with the loveliest snack ever warms up your hands. They are starchy but have low calories and chestnut flower is an ingredient for a lot of super yummy recipes like bread, treats and more.
Hazelnuts are strangely not my favorite. But many love especially those. They are a good source for the amino acid homosysteine. Very helpful for people with Parkinson disease.
I go crazy for macadamias, roasted and salted. They are high in fat and minerals.
Pistachios ones were my absolute favorite ones. They are so expensive that I don’t buy them anymore so often. But they are as well high in vitamin B6 and older people should eat them as they have a good level of lutein and zeaxanthin which help the vision.
A friend of mine is convinced that 3 Brazil nuts are enough to be super healthy. They are packed with selenium which help anyway with thyroid problems. And with she is perfectly
OK for the amount of the mineral she needs a day.
Cashew nuts are the ones I use less. And with those I could do a lot of cheesy spreads. They are used in many cuisines for main dishes.
Pecan nuts look so nice when they are placed on a treat like a chocolate truffle for example. They are rich in antioxidants and prevent plaque formation in arteries. The vitamin B3 helps us to get all the energy out of our food.
Walnuts are in the moment the ones I eat mainly. And a lot as friends of mine have a few trees and so endless walnut supplies. Walnuts are great who has to battle cancer, they have heart-friendly fats and they lower the bad cholesterol. And as fish is also very expensive in some parts of the world they are a great source for omega-3.
Today want to give you an idea what to do if you have a whole lot of nuts, any nuts.
As I bought recently a food-processor I tried out to do some chocolate spread like Nutella. It came out great. So then I thought about the walnuts I have, tons it seems. I cleaned them and put them into the food-processor. I let them half done, just having a kind of flour, then I added some honey and made a real paste of it. And guess what? Yes, it is soooo good that the next time I tried again with some more adds. And this is the way I will in future ‘store’ my nuts, whatever nuts friends give me 😀
You can use the nut paste for all kind of sweet treats as well for bread, mix it in your smoothies or in the morning muesli, a creamy dip is another way to eat fruit, you can make pancakes or use it for main dishes like in Thai food. I put it in my morning banana smoothie with some flax seed oil. So super energy boosting and helps me to arrive at late lunch-time without any thought of food.
Try this easy walnut paste and use it as walnut marzipan..

- Put the walnuts into your food processor and let it work until the nuts are like flour.
- Add the honey and the scrapped out vanilla and switch on your food processor again. Let it work until a paste ball forms. Then it's ready.
- Take the walnut paste ball out (it comes out clean) and place it in a jar or other glace container until you use it.
I didn't store int he fridge and I am not sure how long it will last. I think for month but have no experience.
Of course you can use any other type of nuts or mix nuts as well.
