The King of Rock ‘n Roll on Ice

I like a lot to organize trips and see new places. But I really enjoyed twice when a friend organizes something and I can ‘follow’. That’s what happened a few days ago. A friend of mine wanted to see the ice world of rock ‘n roll near to Rostock. So we – my friend, her mother, another friend of hers with her son and me – left in the late morning to go east.

It’s about one hour from Lübeck, the place we started our day trip. Easy to find we arrived at a place that seemed packed with people. Just to find a parking place it took us 15 minutes.. OK, it was Saturday and sunny.

We entered Karl’s Erdbeerwelt. Here everything is ‘strawberr-ish’. A huge place for families. But we were mainly interested in the ice world exhibition. So we weaved through the mass of humans to the entrance. 8 € to enter, a lot of money but we found out it is worth!

Have a look at the photos, aren’t they amazing? I mean some artists made all these figures out of ice cubes. Incredible! It is freezing cold in the hall of course but who likes can have a poncho before entering (no costs extra). We had a walk around and could not be less amazed by these great works.

Elvis how we remember him, his own pose, other rock ‘n rollers and typical dancers. The Vespa was a wonderful surprise like also the Chevrolet. The colorful lights are putting everything in the right… light. And the girls’ petticoats really seemed to bob up and down with the music.

There is also a place for children to play on the ice. I saw a few children there having a lot of fun and laughing.

And before you go out again you can have a drink at the bar. I even saw strawberries in the ice of the bar counter. I didn’t ask what they have to drink but I believe strawberry wine, strawberry eggnog and similar.

I really enjoyed this place. It was a great surprise as I didn’t know before what to expect. I loved to see one of the artists at his work with the ice pickle.

I think all visitors had a great time here in, adults as children. It’s still a kind of music and the time that is getting under the skin of everyone. I didn’t like too much the very loud music though, good but a little disturbing.

As Karl’s Erdbeerwelt can be found in other places as well I don’t know if they have the ice world everywhere. Don’t think so. So if you are in the area of northern Germany don’t miss it, it’s really worth!
