The green lung of San Diego: Balboa Park

Balboa Park is a urban cultural park right in the middle of San Diego. It offers a lot of green spaces but also architecture and cultural places like theaters and museums. Attached to the park there is the famous San Diego Zoo. In the park there are also restaurants and cafeterias and recreational facilities.

The park was created in the beginning of last century for the Panama-California Exposition and later the California Pacific International Exposition. Already in 1977 the architecture was declared a National Historic Landmark.

The park was already a public recreation park in the 19th century when it was declared as one in 1835.

Today there are more than 15 museums in the park. I have been to the Museum of Photographic Arts. Many gardens are hosted in the Park as well. I visited the Botanical Garden. We walked in many recreational areas and we had a wonderful, memorial dinner in ‘The Prado’ restaurant and had a look to the many little houses or huts hosting different countries from all over the world.

I have not been to the zoo which is attached to the park. I don’t like animals closed in a specific space and I refuse to see them.

I am looking forward to some of the many, many events that take place in the park. For example some night an organ play or another kind of concert. I wasn’t at the Christmas markets last Christmas but I think it is not the right moment to go as it is overcrowded.
