Pottery Artists in San Diego – On Tour

As some of you already know I like to go on artistic tours. In summer I have been a few times at the ‘Red Stool’ (‘Der Rote Stuhl’) in Northern Germany. This tour includes a lot of artists in a very wide area in Ostholstein (region in Schleswig-Holstein).

As I am currently in San Diego, California I had the same possibility with a pottery tour. And honestly I am surprised again how professional people are in what should be just a hobby.

There were 30 potters located in 9 different locations all in the area between Spring Valley and Mission Hills. The studios were private homes which sometimes showed more than only one potter. The tour is a self-guided one, you can get a map/brochure where you find the places and who will be where. It was the 9th edition of this great idea that is open to the public for free. Which hopefully will give also a ‘kick’ to the artists and their really amazing art.

The pottery was all from usable to just art.

I loved mainly the colorful ones but saw also some great ideas like teapots as bird feeders or for plants.

Pottery is a great idea for gifts, especially around Christmas time. I didn’t buy anything though. But I saw a lot of really nice things and liked a lot pottery for outside like for example the garden or the patio.

Hopefully I will be here again for the next year tour and maybe see all of them as we have been only to 3 or 4 of them. The distances are not long between each other but still take time and don’t forget the time you will spent at each studio. Oftentimes there were also tea/coffee and cookies offered. A great idea for a leisurely weekend!
