Living in a Castle

Looking for a nice place were to stay this summer I found something in the Internet at Corciano. It’s a small medieval village in the surrounding hills of the Trasimeno Lake and just a 10 minutes drive from Perugia. Would be perfect as place because I could live in a scenic place, no traffic, historical and the same I could go to the theater, cinema, shopping, museums and much more.

So one of these mornings I took the car and drove up into the hills to see if I can have an appointment to see this apartment I saw in the world wide web.

Sun shining hot from the blue blue sky and a quiet little castle village – that’s the way Corciano came on me. I parked my car outside the ancient walls and walked into history. The first thing I liked a lot: the view on the landscape and the silence. No traffic! Wow, great. But then the church bells send me back to reality and so I knew there are sounds here as well!

The name Corciano – I read – comes from Ulysses’ mythical friend Coragino and is an Etruscan-Roman place. In the 13th century it was a free city related to Perugia and the Renaissance – period was flourishing.

There are some important buildings, like the Palazzo Municipale (town hall), the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo (house of the representative of Perugia) and more. There are some churches as well and the piazze are nice places to sit in the sun and having a coffee.

I asked a man in the streets if he knows some estate agent or a house to rent. He sent me to some who send me to the tabaccaio and there a lady called someone. That’s how it works in Italy!

10 Minutes later a man came along to show me an apartment. Great view, 3 bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen. The price was OK but the kitchen was a disaster. That’s why I decided not to take it. Having a kitchen I always feel bad to go in is nit the right way to choose a home – even temporary.

What would have you done? Taken the apartment because of the scenic surroundings and taking the kitchen as it is or better to look for another place? I said I will call as soon I took a final decision. I always let open things like this till I have found something more right for me.
