Driving in Italy – Umbria

Umbria is one of the smallest regions of Italy and is for many years on my list where I would like to live. So I thought. Now I had the opportunity to go around and have a closer look.

It is situated in the center of the country and doesn’t touch any coast at all. That is something I don’t like too much as I am a beach and ocean lover. But there are many other things I love here and one is the nature and the historic, ancient cities of the medieval period.

I had a good time at the Trasimeno Lake, one of the biggest lakes of Italy and really very suggestive. I didn’t see the Cascate delle Marmore but will do so on my next trip in that part of the country.

I enjoyed a lot cities like Gubbio and Castilgione del Lago, had a great time in the nature of the mountains and hills and around the lake.

Cities as Narni, Città del Castello, Assisi or Norcia need a longer stay to see them all and enhance history of these places. There are a lot of famous persons coming from this area like Francis of Assisi, Giotto, St. Benedict or Cimabue.

I passed a few times the Tiber one thinks immediately at Rome. I loved the hilly shape of the region and the vineyards and olive trees. I know they produce and excellent wine and olive oil extra virgin. Famous are also the truffles they find mainly in Valnerina. I tried a truffle oil that is really super yummy.
