Diving into Art in Val d’Erica – B&B ValdericArte

I was looking for a special place to stay for one or two nights in the Marche and I found a promising art b&b I wanted to have a look.

Driving the SP 73 bis from Urbino or Umbria it’s easy to find as there is a street sign. The way to the B&B is a little adventure and to take slowly.

Valdericarte is situated in a mountain landscape with no other houses around and there is nothing more than birds and a small river bubbling.

Entering the garden and house is like entering an art gallery. Everywhere sculptures and paintings from the two artists, mother (Maria Luisa Berti/Luberti, mainly sculptures) and daughter (Maria Stella Rossi, mainly paintings). A few dogs and cats are greeting guests as well.

Four rooms, all in different shades of blue and dedicated to different famous painters of the past. There are two bathrooms (very special like a shower coming out of a tree), no room en suite. One room has 4 beds.

The house has three floors and the owners are living here. So everything is in family.

For breakfast they offer coffee and tea, fruits, jam, yogurt, muffins and cakes, who likes eating bacon and eggs, sausages and for special days a special breakfast with eggs and more. All self made.
Lunch or dinner possible. 20 € and you get antipasto, soup, pasta dish, vegetarian dish and cake, water and wine. All fresh made and unique.

Open fireplaces are warm in the evening and give a great cozy feeling.

The garden is nice to sit, write, read or relaxing in the Jacuzzi.

Personal experience:
It’s the most suggestive place I have been on my tour through northern Italy. I love to be surrounded by artistic ideas and breathtaking nature. But most of all the owners of this place are so impressive and they will stay forever in my heart. So warm, open and ‘familiar’. I had great talking moments, sitting in front of the open fire, dinner and lunch with authentic food.
The room I had is wonderful and the bed asked me every morning to stay a little longer as my self made timetable said.
About eating: I had my morning coffee and a fruit basket. They cook mainly vegetarian and are open for all other kinds of healthy cooking. I talked to them about a Danish nut bread and got on the try. New guests tried it as well 😀
Every corner of the house is so inspiring because of all the sculptures, paintings and other art crafts they do. I think it would take ages to see all of them!

I recommend:
Go hiking. There are a million possibilities to know the nature. Try maybe also a few days with Trekking della Luna who offer trekking tours combined with great gourmet feeling.

San Marino is only a couple of hours away and a ‘must have been once in life’. But very touristic and not the first choice. Try more Urbania, Urbino (amazing!) and all the smaller medieval villages. You will discover a lot of history and beautiful places where to hike. The seaside is about one and half an hour far (Fano).
