A Luxurious Farm Stay near to Ascoli Piceno – Villa Cicchi

Looking for a nice place to stay for one night we ended up in the Villa Cicchi. It was mentioned by the mountain guide my friend contacted before coming to Italy as he wanted to climb up the Monte Vettore, highest mountain in the region and situated in the Monte Sibillini National Park nearby.

We came from Fano, just a 2 hours drive. We took the motorway A14 to San Benedetto del Tronto, leaving here and taking the RA11 to Ascoli Piceno. Continuing to ‘Roma’ we saw the sign to the ‘Agriturismo Villa Cicchi’ just in time.

It has a great parking place just before the house itself. In front of the house there are another few parking places. To arrive at the house it’s a little difficult as it has a very sharp right turn. Better to go up a little further and turn back.

The house itself is huge, a real old farm house once maybe housing more families. It’s in family for over 100 years. There is still living the grand grand mother, 92 years and in great form. I had a wonderful chat with her.

Six bedrooms, all decorated with a lot of artistic love and very different from each others. Cozy, all en suite and spacey.
Great: free Wi-Fi! And working well. The bathroom had a shower and a hair-dryer. I saw a TV and of course it has a central heating system.
There is a nice terrace with a swimming-pool and the garden has a lot of trees giving shadow in the summer.

It is possible to have dinner in the dining rooms. Ingredients are fresh, mainly from the own gardens but always local. The cuisine is typical for Ascoli Piceno. The house has got a lot of awards, is on famous travel magazines (also international) and is famous for its cuisine.

They offer wine and olive oil tastings, cooking lessons in the house, yoga and much more. Between September and October they host musical events as well.

Personal experience:

I had a very pleasant and warm stay here. We arrived unexpected, I didn’t book before. They just prepared two rooms – doubles for single – while we were chatting with the owners in the entrance hall in front of an open fire. Dog and cat greeting us as well.

The room is very comfortable, I had a great sleep. The little bathroom is a little architect wonder – I love the idea how they integrated the bath room in a room with no facilities before. A bottle of water and two glasses, some fruit on a table, a huge window for day light.

It happened that this evening we could not have dinner in the house (normally there is no problem) but the owner recommended a restaurant nearby.

We had breakfast at 7 o’clock. The breakfast is served as buffet with a lot of choices: fresh bread, jam, fruits, yogurts, cereals, cheeses and much more. I got fruits and ham as I don’t eat any kind of cereals and dairy. My friend had a fresh cooked egg as well and coffee and cappuccino.

As we wanted to leave the very same day but in late afternoon we asked if it would be possible to have one room a little longer until leaving. No problem. This will be difficult in summer when fully booked out. But whatever we asked they tried to satisfy us.

We paid for the night 70 € each. I think a great value!

I recommend:

A ‘must visit’ is Ascoli Piceno. Only a few minutes from the farm house the city offers a lot. Rich in history you will find great architecture and amazing art. The baptistery is breathtaking.
A ‘must go’ is also the Monte Sibillini National Park. I have known a professional mountain guide, Giovanni Fusco, who offers trekking and hiking tours as well as ice-climbing. The mountains are perfect for real mountain lovers but as well for just walking people like me. He offers tours in groups and alone and speaks English.
If you like to dine out of the farm then there is just a few minutes away a restaurant called ‘Country house San Giorgio’ at Rosara. It is special not only for its ambiente but for the ‘menu’. There is no menu. You pay 25 € and get a lot of tastes of antipasti, pasta, main dishes and desserts. Believe me, your are completely done after dinner!
