This is definitely of of my favorite shops in Ireland. As a Shabby Chic and Country-style lover it gives me a huge choice of ideas and items to decorate, finding gifts for friends and of course collecting beautiful things.
Actually it was a friend who brought me the very first time in this place. He is befriended with the owners and thought this might be a place I would like – as a girl and lover of beautiful things.
And he was soooo right!
The Courtyard is a hidden place. And I mean HIDDEN. I always go around to explore the whole countryside between Kells and Navan before I eventually get to this magic place. It’s like it wants to play with me, get me more and more excited. I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I don’t go too often…
The house has a small parking ground in front. You walk through a little front yard before entering the inner yard. The whole country house with three sides is a shop on two floors.
Entering you have a cozy welcome with tons of beautiful things, during winter time an open fireplace gives a warm welcome to the ‘guests’. And after a friendly “Hello, how are you?” the best is to take a seat first and drink a hot coffee and try that amazing super yummy gluten-free brownie cake. It’s one of my really rare exceptions I make. But I love the cake, the atmosphere and relaxing moment.
Later you need to take all your inner strength to walk half an hour or more in this Pandora box full of amazing ideas. You can be sure to find tons of gifts for all friends no matter if they like or not the Shabby Chic or country style, you will continuously work in your mind and try to make place at home for the light pink cupboard, the oriental looking cushions, where can you display best the 10 nostalgic black and white postcards, do you really need a special occasion for the paper napkins? For me it’s paradise and torture.
The Courtyard in Kells I recommend in any season, if you are looking for ideas for gifts or your own home or if you want a nice place for your five o’clock tea or coffee.. here it is. Of course there are a lot of great shops in and around Navan or County Meath but this has really everything: from a great very welcoming cafeteria to a wonderful shop. And for sure you will have also a great chat with Cara or her mom!
